Supernatural: The Fucking Colt

I DID IT!

I passed my translation test!! I'm into the advanced diploma of Japanese Translation! Providing I pass the course (and the hardest part of that is going to be staying in Adelaide for another year without killing myself) I will be officially qualified!! I AM GOING TO BE A TRANSLATOR GUYZ.

Seriously, the test was so hard (half of it was writing an essay on evolutionary psychology in Japanese. WTF.) I totally didn't expect this.

The only downside is going to be a) explaining the difference between a translator and an interpreter every day for the rest of my life, and b) avoiding these people.

How do you say/write "Bite my ass" in Japanese? This is important.

"oshiri kande", although since Japanese doesn't have the same idiom it will probably come out like you are literally asking them to bite your ass.

Unless that's what you want; I'm not judging.

It is, actually. How do you write it down in those funny heiroglyphics that they got over there?

Hey, so how do you say "fag" in Japanese?

Unfortunately, there's no exact equivalent. I guess the closest would be 'okama' but it doesn't really have the same nuances. English is indeed a rich and varied language.

COMPLETELY WICKED-AWESOME!

Congrats, seph; that's fantastic news. You win!

Sorry about having to stay in Adelaide though. That's pretty terrible. I'm sure you'll get through it, though. Somehow.

You ROCK!

Thank you! :D

I sent you a message on Facebook about January, BTW. I'm always forgetting who checks Facebook often and who doesn't.

My job just started blocking Facebook. It kind of confuses me. Anyhow; could you send it to my cracked pm?

That'd be rad as hell.

later!

They blocked Facebook but not cracked? Bizarre. Anyway, done.

Oh, BTW. My dad told me the other day that he emailed the company that's sending him to Pakistan and asked that they didn't put him up at the Marriot, because he heard they don't have any non-smoking rooms.

ZING!!!

Success!
Well done Seph, that's awesome. I'm forever in awe of someone who can learn another language well enough to get employment using it.

And since there's got to be one asshole who asks- what IS the difference between a translator and an interpreter? (This had better be a funny joke)

Re: Success!
THE DIFFERENCE IS YOUR MOM.

Actually, to save time, I wrote out the answer here: http://bloodslides.livejournal.com/28908.html

Also, thanks :)

I'm in political science, and every time I encounter an anime nut and they find out what I'm majoring in, they always start rattling off facts about Japanese politics as if it will impress me. And despite being whiter than white, they're always fervent Japanese nationalists, so I've started a game where as soon as they lay into the Japanese politics, I'll casually remark something like "You know, Japan had its glory days, but China and Korea will have crushed them within a few years..." and watch them flail.

OH YES I GET THIS AS WELL. Because a country producing cartoons that you like means that it can't have any deep social or political flaws or a really disturbing history. Not to mention the fact that most anime fans will NEVER be accepted in Japan due to the color of their skin (and due to the fact that Japanese people also think anime nuts are freaks), so they're wasting their efforts anyway...

It's lucky they're so fun to deflate.
