Supernatural: Impala

  • Country has a reputation for being depressing (or 'The music of pain', if you watch Buffy) but actually it’s quite cheery! I mean, check out the lyrics to this song. I mean, holy crap, country music stations actually play songs that aren't all about pain.  I don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but whenever I listen to the type of music I used to like up until a few years ago, I can’t understand how I could put up with anything so goddam depressing. I mean, I can handle some pain in my music, but not NOTHING BUT PAIN song after song. Also, country music pain tends to be of the ‘my girlfriend left me’ variety, rather than ‘society is a sucking void and I am going to cut myself’.

  • On the other hand, it’s not too happy. Llike, um, mainstream Christian music. I don’t think I am ready for that level of happiness yet.

  • Country music is funny! It's awesome when you're listening to a country station because the lyrics to every third or so song will make you giggle. Like this one or this one.

  • When you’re listening to a country radio station, you don’t have to worry about accidentally coming across a song describing way-too-graphic sexual acts or acts of violence against women. (Well, except for maybe songs like this.) You also don’t have to worry about accidentally coming across a Nickelback song.

  • This is important to me, because I feel very strongly against violence against women, and also very strongly against Nickelback.

And--and they glorify marriage and family and they're catchy and like The Land and have Deepseated Values.

YES VALUES EXACTLY. You can participate in popular culture without being exposed to EXTREME MORAL DEGENERACY. It's awesome!

Did you know that Darius Rucker was the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish? He is a really great singer, I think that country really fits him.

You should listen to Dierks Bentley...he is pretty awesome.

Did you know that Sarah Blasko gets played on American Country stations? Because she does, and that is completely awesome.

Truly a mystery for the ages. Did you know that the video clip for Sarah Blasko's latest single - All I Want - is set in a western-inspired deserted town?

I'm full of fascinating information like that.

Anyhow, I'm not here to hi-jack your blog, so you'll be pleased to know this very post includes something which is relevant to your interests.

Behold!
